Now that I have to go into the office more often due to a new hybrid schedule at work, I have to worry about my wardrobe. No longer can I pull any shirt out from my drawers and wear it despite it looking like Gary Oldman’s old wrinkled face from the movie Dracula. I have to start dry cleaning and ironing again to look somewhat presentable.

We had a steamer before. We had a Steamfast SF-407 Fabric Steamer. That was pretty good. We bought it in 2009 and lasted until this year. That’s pretty impressive. It was quick to heat up and had the garment hanger which was really helpful. It was easy to fill up and easy to clean. It worked well and had a big tank of water so we didn’t have to fill up a lot if we were doing a bunch of clothes for the week. We were able to get out wrinkles in our clothes…mostly. Sometimes, it would take a lot of passes to remove the wrinkles but I guess that also depended on the material and thickness. We bought it 2009 so maybe it was just ancient steaming technology.
Probably the only thing I didn’t like about it was the bulkiness. We don’t have a lot of storage space, so this ends up hanging out in the open for a while like a piece of art. Having to put it away isn’t that difficult due to the wheels and the telescoping pole but it’s that little extra hassle. Actually another thing is if you are steaming a heavy piece of clothing or put multiple items on the attached garment hanger, it could tip the machine and make a watery mess. That worried me a bit…a water spill with electric machine.
The one pictured is the updated version…our old one looked similar but didn’t have the cool steam head and braided hose.
For our next steamer, we wanted something less bulky. I was also excited to see how much better steaming has come since 2009.
That’s where the Conair Hand Held Fabric Steamer comes in.

Wow. This machine can really get rid of wrinkles. One pass and wrinkles begone.
It was easy to fill up. The water reservoir is pretty small…about 1-2 cups of water. There is a big button on the back to turn the Conair steamer on. It heats up pretty quickly and has a nice even stream of steam. Despite the small water reservoir, I was able to do a few shirts without having to refill. I thought I would have to keep refilling but that wasn’t the case.
I was surprised at how quickly the wrinkles went away. The Conair hand held really seem to penetrate the material to remove the wrinkles. I tried it on shirts, flannels and pants. The only issue was that I had to find a place to hang the clothes so I can steam. That was the nice thing about the Steamfast since it had it’s own garment holder.
I guess this is 2022 steaming tech. I assume most of these steamers including the new version of the Steamfast probably does as well though.
